Tribute

To share something about Mama Rose is a great privilege for me. I thank her family so much for this opportunity. Personally I am still dazed and in deep shock, trying to come to term with her passing. It is difficult for me to imagine the pain and degree of loss they feel now. Our prayers are with them.

As I think of Rose, many attributes criss-cross my mind. Allow me to mention a few.

Open and friendly - She was welcoming, warm and charming, meeting her was a joy. She joined and shared in conversation easily.

Fun-loving and humorous - Mama was simply fun, endowed with a good enjoyable sense of humor. She smiled often and laughed easily when sharing a story narration, she would illustrate it with such creative terminologies. I remember the term “lonyology” which has tickled me for so long.

Dedicated and responsible - Rose sounded stern and principled on matters of discipline, but was a good listener and very understanding. She adored the children and approached her motherly duties with loyalty and dedication. The results of that are seen through the lovely family she had raised.

Humble and down-to-earth - Mama kept high standards. She was quite sophisticated and a sharp dresser. Mama had taste and style when it came to apparel. She had a high sense of fashion coupled with an admirable personal touch. Called upon to dress for an occasion, Mama would not disappoint. Yet she was never arrogant or assuming. She never put anyone off.

Kind-hearted and generous - Rose enjoyed company, she loved to share. Mama gave her time and material possessions easily when she saw a need. She attached very little to a name and material things.

Rose loved life and studied it closely. Her personal life experience taught her a lot. She knew the paths of human existence very well. Mama knew that life is full of sunny moments but also rainy days. Yes in Rose Anyango’s life it did rain; but she took it in all, with unwavering convicted resolve and gentle dignity. She was so stoic, and it was not easy to learn from merely looking at her, what she was going through. Mama had strong faith in the love, mercy, and favor of God. This kept her going.

Jack, lead your brother and sisters in keeping aglow the legacy of your beloved mom. It is indeed a legacy that will be cherished for a long long time to come. It is a legacy that will support and propel you as you match to the future.

May Glory and Majesty be given to The Almighty God. He knows it all. It is well.

Rose was meticulous and beautifully unique in her dressing. Mama Jack as she was commonly referred to, was jovial and the life of the party, she was thorough, forthright, and devoted to all she did. She was kind to all and adored her children and friends and relatives. She also loved animals and took care of them, especially her cats. You will still find them waiting by her door to be let in.
